The Caribbean Chambers of Commerce

Overview
The Caribbean Chambers of Commerce

In August 2023, the Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM) joined the OCHA/UNDP Connecting Business initiative (CBi). The partnership between CBi and CARICHAM will strengthen private sector disaster preparedness, response and recovery in the Caribbean with a focus on micro-, small and medium-enterprise (MSME) resilience and further developing their Center for Excellence.

According to the World Bank, the Caribbean has suffered from an average of US$1.6 billion per year between 2000-2018, with particularly severe events – such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti – resulting in even higher damages. With risk associated with hurricane season, countries in the Caribbean are also vulnerable to natural hazards such as earthquakes, droughts, floods, and landslides.

CBi will provide support to CARICHAM related to disaster management and fostering resilience in MSMEs.
